A bit about Amber Louise Culley
Hello Kitchener Neighbours!
My name is Amber Louise Culley and I am running as a Ward 6 Candidate within the City of Kitchener.
I have a track record of genuine community service and care and have experience both with mental health practice and politics.
I know how to take part in decision-making, make financial decision-making, be a strong advocate in a room for the people, voice morals and ethics, present arguments with facts and statistics, not base arguments off of emotions and feelings, and I get to concrete, tangible solutions.
I have sat in rooms and held discussions and debates. I have been a public speaker. I have acted as a representative for organizations and people at the local, national and international levels in Panama most recently this August along with Ghana, Cuba, across the US, across Canada and Indigenous communities, England, Qatar, UAE, and more. I have a broad range of perspectives and knowledge that I can bring in. Coupling my experiences in 20+ countries and within Canada, I have academic and work experience across political science, criminology, psychotherapy, global studies, culture, spiritual care and theology. I act empirically and person-centred.
I have met with King Charles III, Queen Camilla, various Lieutenant Governor's, PM Mark Carney, PM Justin Trudeau, national and international organizations, university leadership and non-profit executives. I have held conversations and made arguments on topics including economics, ecology and climate, conservation and hunting and fishing, interfaith and secular relations, mental health, industry, trades, accessibility and disability, unemployment, youth employment and funding opportunities, entrepreneurism, education and peacemaking. I have developed the skills to advocate for you and represent your needs and concerns.
I have an interdisciplinary background myself and am qualifying to be a mental health practitioner with interests in also engaging within politics throughout my life. Additionally, I come from a background of people who were farmers for many generations and worked across various industries including skilled trades, manufacturing, law enforcement, sciences, healthcare, the service industry, governance and my grandfather Norman Culley managing the K-W Drive In in Bridgeport. I am able to support a broad range of perspectives and understand different needs; and have a track record of supporting various needs and being well engaged in communities.
Quite frankly, I am a bit blunt and will not sugarcoat my statements for anyone serving their own selfishness or padding their own pockets. I will call it out and back it up with facts and strong leadership. I know what hard work means and hardworking people deserve someone who will work hard for them rather than focusing in on photo ops and sitting collecting a cheque while your concerns, high living costs, egregiously high salary raises amongst City management, poor roads, flooding and so on go unaddressed.
Within my own ward, Ward 6, there are issues and concerns regarding transparency and genuine care for the people. There are immense conflicts of interests and an overrepresentation of conflicts of interests in my ward compared to other Ward Councillors. I will bring honest, transparent leadership based on common sense and care. You have a civic right to hold me accountable and not let me idle in this position. If the Ward 6 incumbent is re-elected, they will serve for 20 years in this role. No Canadian politician should be able to serve in one position for this period of time. There should be term limits. Residents have shared with me their concerns over ongoing traffic issues as well over the past two years that has gone unaddressed on roads such as Bleams Road, Block Line, Homer Watson, near school areas, and in the Country Hills area. I would make sure to listen to you, hold a consultation with the public and implement action steps towards addressing this.

Additionally, please do reach out. I have worked within the City's Community Services part-time amidst my graduate studies, psychotherapy and other work. I have worked across all of the community centres except for two of them. I genuinely enjoy getting to talk with folks and getting to know them. If there is anything on my website that I do not address for you, please do tell me. I want to know. Perhaps there is something I have missed out of human flaw or simply have not noticed - and I need to notice it. Make me aware of what matters to you, let’s make action plans together, or just reach out to say hello and get to know one another.
